Vacationing On A Volcanic Isle

Spending time with my family is one thing I don’t have opportunity to do a lot of any more with an older brother living in California going to school and being a full time college student myself. When the summer months come along and the family can be together once again, well, let’s just say I like it when we take advantage of that time!

I’m writing from Waikoloa Village, near Kona, Hawai’i. The Big Island. Last year my parents, sister, and I spent a month on Kaua’i, after dropping Tanner off at Weimar College. Now we are spending two and a half weeks together. Although we’re hoping this island gets better (it’s one giant hunk of volcanic flow with little greenery near where we’re staying!), we’ve been happy to see mongooses (or mongeese?), birds, lots of sea turtles, fish, and lizards. The cultivated area at this village is really beautiful and boosts many flowers. Kauai is the “garden island” and Hawaii must be the “volcanic island”. We have two weeks in which to keep exploring, so I will be sure to update you all on any amazing findings.

Even though it’s not as beautiful here yet, we’re together. The condo we’re renting is amazing. We can just relax here together. I’m glad we can spend one last vacation together. It’s a good thing.
